Euro-spec 2015 Honda CR-V revealed; gets a 9 speed automatic

Honda has officially revealed the European spec 2015 CR-V. The new model features a revised front grill, restyled headlamps, along with a new front bumper and skid plate. At the back, the new CR-V features LED tail lamps, with overall design cues remaining the same as the prototype showcased at the Paris motor show in October.

The refreshed suv gets a reshaped chrome-effect inlay running the width of the dashboard, as well as a sliding armrest between the front seats. It will also feature the Honda Connect app-driven infotainment system. The new system's features include internet access, nine pre-installed apps, Bluetooth connectivity and an optional Garmin satellite navigation system among others.

The highlight however is the power-train. The 4WD variant of the new CR-V gets a 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel engine that makes 158 bhp and 350 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual or a new 9-speed automatic. The latter replaces the old 5-speed.

The 1.6 i-DTEC is also offered with the 2WD model, but the output is lower at around 118 bhp and it only comes with the 6-speed manual. Honda will also continue to offer the 2.0-litre i-VTEC petrol that makes 153 bhp.

It has been rumoured that Honda will bring the CR-V diesel to India next year. The current generation CR-V is not a strong seller primarily because it is offered only with 2.0 litre or 2.4-litre petrol engines, in a segment that is popular for diesels. If Honda does bring the CR-V diesel to India, the SUV would certainly see the benefits.
