"End Stalemate" says Karnataka Government to Toyota

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has been asked by the Government of Karnataka to end the standoff with the workers union and resume normal operations at the twin plants located at Bidadi, near Bangalore.
An official statement issued by Toyota on 19 April, 2014 states:

"The Government of Karnataka, in order to maintain industrial peace and harmony, has issued an order asking the company and the union to restore normalcy in operations, immediately. All relevant issues between the workers and the management have been referred for adjudication. We thank all our stakeholders for their support and understanding during this difficult period."

On 16th March, Toyota had announced a lockout at its plants following a failure of talks between the management and labour union over wage negotiations. The company claimed that a section of workers, instigated by the union, had deliberately stopped the production line and threatened supervisors. This had resulted in disruption of the manufacturing process and the management declared a lockout citing the safety of its employees.

Toyota lifted the lockout on 24th March, but wanted the workers to resume after signing an undertaking on good conduct, which the union did not agree to.
