The Gujarat Government has proposed to introduce a fleet of electric buses for public transport, which will shuttle between Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad. In the initial phase, 15-20 mini electric buses will be inducted to the fleet, with a seating capacity of 40 passengers each.
Secondly, solar powered charging stations will be placed at regular intervals on the 35 kms long electric bus route.
The project will not only reduce exhaust emissions, but will also introduce electric-powered vehicles in the public transport system (similar to the BYD buses running in Bangalore).
On achieving success with this project, other states of the country too are likely to replicate the electric transport service model.
