I did the route Bhubaneswar-Vizag-Vijaywada-Hyderabad again today. Started at 6:15 from Patrapada and reached at 23:50 at Kompally.
Road updates:
- Bhubaneswar to Vizag is butter smooth 6-lane roads, except for 1 flyover under construction, after Brahmapur.
- Vizag to Atkuru is the same, mostly 4-lanes with the occasional top surface having worn off. Plenty of repair work going on all through, so lots of slowdowns. To catch the West Vijaywada bypass road, there is a blink and you miss U-turn so keep an eye out for the signs. It stretches to the right of the old NH-16 right and, rather confusingly, marked as the road to Vijaywada.
- Vijaywada bypass road’s first few kilometers have the dreaded ruts from the heavy vehicles on the fast lane so keep to the left when possible. After the first toll-booth the road is superb until Nunna, where a few missing sections are quite painful to navigate.
- As the final sections of the bypass are not complete, I had to go through the western part of the city.
- NH-65, nothing major to report. Had lunch at Annavaram (One resort) and dinner at Suryapet (7 plaza) . Both are trusted spots and did not disappoint on this occasion.
- Trip meter reads 1048 kms door to door in just under 18 hours.
