Delhi: Permissible days for odd/even-numbered cars announced

As a recent development to the Delhi government announcement regarding the odd-even number rule (link to news article), it has now been concluded that private vehicles with their registration plates ending with 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 will be allowed to ply on Monday, Wednesday and Friday; while those ending with 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 will be allowed on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. There will be no restriction on Sunday.

Delhi home minister mentioned that emergency vehicles like PCR vans, fire trucks, ambulances etc. will be exempt from this restriction. He added that all citizens will have to abide by this rule, including ministers and office-bearers.

This rule is likely to be enforced from January 1, 2016. The minister seeks for suggestions from the people (at pollutionfreedelhi@gmail.com) to contribute their views towards this trial move. The Delhi CM goes on to mention that if the people faced problems after this rule has been implemented, the government could consider discontinuing the move after 10 to 15 days.

To accommodate the heavy rush of people who might rely on public transport, the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and Cluster have been asked to increase the frequency of their buses by 20%. Even the Metro's working hours will be increased.
