BYD electric scooter in the works; Patent drawings revealed

BYD could be working on a maxi-scooter design, equivalent to the 250-350cc segment.

According to reports, BYD, one of China's largest automotive brands, is now preparing to enter the electric scooter segment.

Ahead of its entry, BYD has already taken a step towards creating its own platform and patent drawings of its electric scooter have already been submitted. The patent drawings suggest BYD could be working on a maxi-scooter design, equivalent to the 250-350cc segment with around 20 to 35 BHP of power. This, as per reports, translates to a battery capacity in the range of 9-12 kWh.

The drawings also reveal USD front forks, dual shock absorbers at the rear, a large seat, knuckle guards, a large windscreen, split headlamps and a coaxially mounted swingarm connected to the motor. Reports state that the project appears to be in an advanced stage, with all components apart from the rearview mirror ready for approval.
