Bumper-to-bumper insurance must for vehicles sold after Sep 1

The high court ruled in favour of a writ petition filed by the New India Assurance Company.

The Madras High Court recently passed an order stating that all vehicles sold after September 1, 2021, must have bumper-to-bumper insurance cover for 5 years.

The high court order was passed while hearing a writ petition from the New India Assurance Company, challenging the orders of the Motor Accidents Claims Tribunal, Erode from December 2019.

The Motor Accidents Claims Tribunal, Special District Court in Erode had directed the insurance company to pay Rs. 14.65 lakh as compensation to the family of a man who had died in a vehicle accident. The insurance company had challenged this order stating that the deceased only had 'third-party' insurance.
