BMW X7 full-size SUV spotted testing

A test mule of a full-size SUV from BMW, which will likely be christened as the X7, has been spotted. This will be the largest SUV ever built by the German automaker. In 2014, BMW had announced plans to launch an all-new flagship SUV, which will rival the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLS, Audi Q7 and the Range Rover.

Covered in heavy camouflage, the spotted test mule doesn't reveal much about the design elements. However, the spy shots make it apparent that the X7 looks like a stretched version of the new-gen X5. The front end is expected to get slimmer headlights and a muscular nose.

On the inside, the X7 is being touted to be the SUV equivalent of the new 7-Series. It will borrow the dashboard layout and features on offer from the flagship sedan, while there will be a three-row seating arrangement.

Coming to engines, an inline-6 and a V8 unit are the options likely to be offered. A V12 might also be used in the M-Performance variant. Reports also suggest that BMW might include a plug-in hybrid powertrain for the X7.

The automaker is expected to unveil this SUV in 2018, as a 2019 model. It will most likely be produced at BMW's plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
