BMW recalls 1 million vehicles in North America

BMW has issued two recalls in North America covering over 1 million vehicles due to fire risk. According to the German car maker, versions of the 1-Series, 3-Series, 5-Series, X5, X3 and Z4 manufactured between 2007 and 2011 have been found to have defective wiring and electrical connectors that control the air-conditioning system, which might cause a fire. The second recall is to replace the heater for the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve which has been found to malfunction, resulting in a fire.

The BMW 128i produced between 2008 and 2011 along with the 328i, 525i, 528i, 530i, X3. X5 and Z4 built between 2007 and 2011 have been diagnosed with the PCV valve heater issue. A total of 7,40,561 vehicles have been affected by this issue.

Additionally, 6,72,775 vehicles including 323i, 325i, 325xi, 328i, 328xi, 330i, 330xi, 335i, 335xi and M3 built between 2006-2011 and 335is manufactured between 2007 and 2011 as well as 335ds from 2009-2011 have been found to have improper air-conditioner wiring. Some vehicles are affected by both the above-mentioned issues.

BMW dealers will be replacing the defective parts free of cost from December 18, 2017 onwards.
