BMW Concept Z4 unveiled at Pebble Beach Concourse

BMW has unveiled the Concept Z4 at the Pebble Beach Concourse d'Elegance in California. The production model of the car will be revealed at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.

BMW has released official images of the Concept Z4, which show a revised design language. Media reports suggest that the new BMW Z4 will be based on the CLAR platform, which also underpins the 2-Series, 5-Series and the 7-Series. Therefore, the car is expected to be lighter than its predecessor. There is no official confirmation about the engines that will be on offer. However, the reports suggest that the Z4 might get a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged engine in the base variant and a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder, turbocharged motor on higher variants. The next-gen BMW Z4 is being jointly developed with the new Toyota Supra. The latter will be available as a hard-top coupe, while the Z4 is expected to get a folding soft-top.

The Concept Z4 gets a twin-kidney grille with a mesh pattern. It sits lower and is wider than the one on the current Z4. The car also gets a pair of sweptback headlights featuring twin-pod lights that are stacked on top of each other, instead of being placed side by side. The front bumper houses two air vents on either side and gets a splitter on the lower part. The clamshell bonnet has a couple of vents on either side. Like most of the current BMW cars, the Concept Z4 gets air vents behind the front wheel arches. The rear features an integrated spoiler and comes with L-shaped LED tail lights. The interiors of the car feature a three-spoke steering wheel and digital instrument cluster.
