Another update- I cleaned the BMC air filter day before after a gap of 6,000kms. It wasn't clogged or anything, but there was some dirt in the washing tub I cleaned the filter in. After drying, I applied as less oil as possible, just barely colouring all the ribs of the filter.
Upon installation, the car ran for the first time with the inlet mods and a clean filter.
The result is astonishing. Overall much smoother. But the surprising results are in the increase in FE. Where I was getting 7-8 kmpl after the usual traffic jam on Western Express Highway from BKC to Andheri East, I'm getting above 10-11 kmpl easily. The difference is coming from the fact that in bumper to bumper traffic and low speed driving, the revs are below 1500. In 2nd gear, the car moves without any accelerator pedal input from 20-5kmph and coasts at around 10kmph. Likewise, 4th gear allows the same from 50 to 30kmph and 3rd gear from 30ish to 20ish kmph. There is no hint of stalling or knocking in these ranges. So even without the turbo kicking in, the car has sufficient power to work without stress between 1500-900rpm.
When required, power is available on tap to reach desired speeds with a downshift.
I'm enjoying all this to the hilt!
