Automakers to declare emission & noise pollution data

It will soon become mandatory for automakers to declare emission and noise pollution data for every vehicle in their portfolio. The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has issued an official notification informing automakers about the new guidelines, which will come into practice from April 1, 2017.

All motor vehicles that run on petrol, CNG, LPG, electric, diesel and hybrid power will fall under this ruling. Even e-rickshaws and e-carts, which were till now out of such emission data accumulation, will now require the said declaration. Agricultural and construction vehicle manufacturers too will be required to submit the desired information.

The Ministry has also revised "Form 22" under the "Central Motor Vehicles Act, 1989". This form will now also require details about the sound pollution readings from the vehicle, including sound level for the horn as well as pass-by noise values.
