Ather Energy launches EV charging stations in Bangalore

Ather Energy has launched its first network of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations called AtherGrid in Bangalore. Installations of the intelligent charging stations have already begun and the company plans to setup 30 EV charging points in the city by the end of this month, while 30 more will be installed by the end of the year.

The company has partnered with malls, cafes, restaurants, tech parks, multiplexes and gyms in the city to setup EV charging points at their premises. All charging points are connected through a mobile application, which will be offered to EV owners free of cost for the next 6 months. It uses a cloud-based system and owners can find the nearest charging point and navigate to the location using the app. The app also allows owners to remotely monitor the charge status and even has integrated payment options. 

The charging points draw electricity from the grid only when connected to a vehicle. They have in-built safety features like auto power cut-off to prevent damage from power surge or low voltage and overcharging. The charging stations are IP55 rated and are safe to use in any kind of weather.

Meanwhile, Ather Energy is gearing up to introduce its first electric scooter, the S340 in India. Reports suggest that the company will open pre-orders in June 2018. Initially, the e-scooter will only be offered to customers in Bangalore.
