Aston Martin and LeEco to build the RapidE electric car

British luxury car maker - Aston Martin has joined hands with Chinese internet technology company - LeEco (formerly known as Letv) to develop its first electric production car - a production version of the RapidE electric vehicle concept. This new car will be based on the Aston Martin Rapide S and is likely to hit showrooms by 2018.

The RapidE production car is expected to be the first among a potential range of electric vehicles on behalf of Aston Martin, LeEco and Faraday Future.

The first result of their partnership was the Aston Martin Rapide S being equipped with an internet-based infotainment system by LeEco. The second area of the partnership is the development of low-emission vehicle technologies, which has been accelerated as they developed their respective plans for launching a range of new electric vehicles during the second half of the decade.

LeEco is an internet technology company, founded in 2004, headquartered in Beijing, China. It is engaged in several businesses, spanning Internet TV, video production and distribution, smart gadgets and large-screen applications to e-commerce, eco-agriculture and connected super-electric cars.
