Airbus and Mahindra to make military helicopters in India

In July 2015, Airbus Helicopters and Mahindra Defence signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to form a joint venture. The JV is being formed as a part of the "Make in India" initiative, to produce military helicopters in India. Today, representatives of both companies signed a Statement of Intent, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the visiting French President François Hollande.

Guillaume Faury, President & CEO of Airbus Helicopters stated that the company will build multiple helicopter models from its global portfolio in India. Both companies are evaluating potential industrial sites and are screening the existing local supply chain, while establishing the JV.

The companies are proposing to setup a final assembly line in India, develop tier-1 and tier-2 suppliers and share technology extensively, with the intent to ultimately achieve 50% indigenous content.
