Affordable performance EVs are top priority, says Hyundai N boss

Biermann suggested that there could be a concept or two in the pipeline.

According to media reports, Albert Biermann, technical advisor & Hyundai N boss, confirmed in a recent interview that the brand is looking to introduce smaller, affordable EVs from its performance division.

When asked about making affordable alternates to its latest 600 BHP Ioniq 5 N, Biermann confirmed that the company is interested in that area. He stated, "[Hyundai N is] intensely looking. What do we have in the pocket, and how do we make a fun machine out of what we have? This process [has been] going on intensely for quite some time because, for me, the most important thing is to come up with this smaller, more affordable [electric] N car."

However, the N performance division doesn't develop cars from scratch but modifies existing models. Hence, for customers to get smaller N models, Hyundai has to come up with affordable EVs in the first place.

Biermann suggested that there could be a concept or two in the pipeline. He stated, "We need this smaller segment N car, and for the rest of my term with the Hyundai Motor Group, this is my absolute priority number one — to come up with a concept for a car or two cars ... where we can deliver the true N car in a more affordable segment but with the same level of fun or even higher level of driving fun."
