58,000 km with my Grand i10 petrol: 7th service update

The battery was also replaced in May, as the older one, installed in January 2020 had conked off.

Update| 7 years 8 months and 57118 km

It was time for the yearly service/ oil change of the car in May. The previous service had been done at 47,596 kms. in May 2023. The DIY bug had bitten me after I started reading the threads as well as came in contact with some fellow BHPians who avidly pursue the DIY route. I asked dad to wait for a month before deciding to send the car for an oil change to the HASC. I was eager to perform the DIY oil change during the semester breaks. However, the wait of one month turned into a couple of months as my summer internship commenced. It was only after the completion of the internship, I was able to perform the DIY oil and filter change.

I couldn't click much pictures as I was performing the DIY for the first time, without any assistance. So, I've uploaded whatever pics I could click.

This time, I used Servo Futura G+ 5W30 fully synthetic instead of the usual Shell Helix HX8 5W30 Fully Synthetic, as there were time constraints and Amazon would've been able to deliver it to me on 1st August, which is today. Procured the engine oil from a COCO petrol bunk near the IOCL refinery of Guwahati, where we fill fuel. Other supplies like air filter, cabin filter and oil filter were sourced from a HGP (Hyundai Genuine Parts) store. They didn't keep stocks of drain bolt gaskets. So, I had to rush to my nearest MGP store, which was only a block away from my home.

Damage to the pocket:

  • Engine oil (3.5 litres) = 1650
  • Oil filter = 107
  • Air filter = 222
  • Cabin filter = 405
  • Drain bolt gasket = 10
  • Total = 2394

A pic of the supplies

One year old cabin filter vs new cabin filter.

Old air filter vs new air filter.

In the meantime, I cleaned the throttle body plate by spraying some remaining 3M throttle body cleaner and removed the debris from the tappet cover.

Finished

The entire job took 3 hours, as I left the drain bolt open for quite some time.

The battery was also replaced in May, as the older one, installed in January 2020 had conked off. Voltage was 10.4. Dad again bought a 40Ah Exide Mileage battery from his friendly battery shop. A buyback of 3300 was provided for the old battery.

Meanwhile, the second hand mid-pipe had done its job well for four years. A hole had formed on it, due to which fuel economy dropped. People asked me if I had modified my exhaust, to which I didn't reply anything, just smiled.

A video of the same.

I, along with an old school classmate, went to a nearby FNG to get it welded. However, their welding machine was not working. The leak needed to be stopped immediately. That's when my classmate suggested me to stop the leak temporarily by applying M Seal. The M Seal is holding on as of today. Dad will get a brand new mid-pipe soon.

Around the same time, there were clunking noises when the car was driven on tiled roads. Dad got the link rods replaced at the HASC. They charged 4000 for the job (parts and service charge included).
