2021 Mercedes-Benz C-Class unveiled

The C-Class is offered with 4-cylinder, electrified petrol and diesel powertrains for the first time.

Mercedes-Benz has revealed the new-generation C-Class. It is offered with 4-cylinder, electrified petrol and diesel powertrains for the first time.

The design of the new C-Class is heavily inspired by the W223 S-Class. The car gets a completely redesigned front fascia featuring re-profiled headlamps. It has a new grille with a mesh made up of chrome three-pointed stars.

Mercedes-Benz has really upped its design game in recent times. With its S-Class-inspired rear end, the new C-Class looks more upmarket than before. The car has a slightly longer wheelbase, while the headroom and legroom have also increased marginally.

The similarities with the S-Class are more evident on the inside. The car gets a vertically oriented touchscreen infotainment in the centre and a floating digital instrument cluster.

 The new C-Class is offered with three petrol and three diesel engine options. These include a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol that makes 168 BHP / 263 Nm (C180) and 201 BHP / 300 Nm (C200). The C300 comes with a 2.0-litre, 4-pot petrol unit that puts out 255 BHP and 400 Nm. A 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder oil burner makes 161 BHP in the C200d, 197 BHP in the C220d and 261 BHP in the C300d.

The C200, C300 and C220d get an all-wheel drive option. A 9-speed automatic transmission is now offered as standard in both petrol and diesel variants. All engines are equipped with a 48V belt-integrated starter generator (BISG), which recovers energy under deceleration to provide a 20 BHP power boost.

Customers will get a choice of sports suspension or continuously adjustable damping. Rear-wheel steering is also available as an option.
