2016 Audi R8 teased ahead of Geneva motor show debut

Audi has just released the first teaser image of the 2nd generation R8 super-car. The new R8 will share a fair share of its DNA with the Lamborghini Huracan and Audi is promoting the car's laser lights with this image. The R8 comes with LED lights as standard which can be supplemented by a laser high beam lighting module as an option. The technology debuted with the R8 LMX. The set up uses 37 LEDs per headlight.

Audi claims the use of high intensity laser diodes help the laser lights provide nearly twice the throw as the standard LED lights. Each headlight contains one laser module that operates with four high intensity laser diodes.

Going by the image, the new R8 will feature redesigned air intakes, a smaller front grille and a restyled, sleeker headlamp cluster. Though official images haven't been revealed, spy shots show the car with redesigned interiors as well. Engine options are likely to be carried over from the old R8. While the V8 has most likely been reworked, the V10 is believed to be closely related to the 5.2-liter mill used on the Huracan. Key details however, will be revealed at the new R8's global debut.
