2014 Honda Urban SUV patent images leak

Honda will bring the Urban SUV concept's production version to Tokyo. The SUV, based on the 2014 Jazz platform, is India bound and patent images of the production version have been leaked. The patent images reveal the actual form that the concept version of the Urban SUV will take when put into production. As is evident from the leaked imagery, the Urban SUV's production version more or less retains the design details of the concept version, apart from production friendly headlamps and alloy wheels being major changes.

The production version of the Honda Urban SUV will seat five adults and will be positioned under the CR-V in terms of price. As the SUV measures 4.3 meters in length, it could command a price higher than the likes of the Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano. Don't be surprised to see the Honda Urban SUV's production version to carry a price tag that jostles with those of the Mahindra XUV500 and the Tata Safari Storme, in keeping with Honda's premium pricing strategy.

Another reason for the higher price tag is the 4.3 meter length of the Urban SUV, that puts it out of India's compact car requirements. The SUV is likely to fall in a higher excise bracket, a factor that'll directly translate into a higher price. As the 2014 Honda Urban SUV is based on the next generation Jazz platform, it is likely to share its petrol and turbo diesel engines with the likes of the 2014 Jazz hatchback and the City sedan models.

The 1.5 liter i-VTEC petrol and i-DTEC turbo diesel engines could be offered on the Urban SUV's production model. The SUV is likely to be launched in the Indian car market by the end of next year or early 2015, continuing Honda's product offensive for the Indian car market. Honda has begun heavily localizing its cars sold in India. A similar strategy is likely to be adopted for the Honda Urban SUV as the Japanese car maker would want to continue in the positive turnaround that began with the Brio hatchback.
