The first Tata Harrier has rolled off the production line in Pune. Tata Motors is gearing up to launch the car in the Indian market in early 2019.
According to the company, the Harrier is built on a new assembly line which has 90% automation levels and over 100 KUKA and ABB robots. It has been built in a time of 6 months. Tata Motors has adopted manufacturing practices from Jaguar Land Rover for the Harrier.
The Tata Harrier is based on the Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced (OMEGA) architecture, which is derived from the Land Rover D8 architecture and developed in collaboration with Jaguar Land Rover. The SUV features a dual-tone exterior with a V-shaped grille flanked by LED DRL strips. The headlamp clusters are placed in separate pods on either side of the front bumper. They feature projectors, while round fog lamps are located below them. The car gets a dual-tone front bumper with a silver scuff plate.
The Harrier has sloping roofline with blacked-out B and C-pillars. It has dual-tone ORVMs with integrated turn indicators, chrome door handles and silver 5-spoke alloy wheels. At the rear, the Harrier features slim wraparound tail lights with a black insert in the middle, a roof-mounted spoiler and a dual-tone bumper with silver inserts.
The Harrier will be powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder KRYOTEC diesel engine. It is based on Fiat's 2.0-litre Multijet engine and is likely to produce 140 BHP.
