DPF issue on my BS-6 Fortuner & how Toyota resolved it

In conclusion, It is a possibility that my vehicle was among the first few lots of 2021 Fortuner and a faulty part may have caused the issue.

BHPian shivs2003 recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

The car has done almost 19K (the original post was at 11K).

I have been deliberating with people from Toyota as to how to solve the problem. Unfortunately, there was a significant lack of clarity, so no one was able to provide concrete answers.

I got a call on Tuesday (14th Dec) from the local Toyota Dealership where I service my cars. They updated that the HO has approved replacement of a large number of parts for your vehicle, the parts have been ordered the same would take about a week.

Today (16th Dec), I planned a visit. I spoke to the guy, he said that the issue is being resolved, there may be issues in my vehicle (some faulty parts).

When i asked for details of the parts, he couldn't provide the same at that moment. I told him, when the parts come, let me know, I will check the same and then we proceed.

In conclusion, It is a possibility that my vehicle was among the first few lots of 2021 Fortuner and a faulty part may have caused the issue.

Will update the group as and when something happens.

Here's what BHPian oh_maan had to say on the matter:

Curious to know if this fixed your issue. I also went through a similar issue in my Crysta. They replaced the catalytic converter and the injectors. I have drive 5K kms since then and haven't had any issues.

I suspect that the root cause for my issue was filling up at a bad pump on the highway with highly adulterated diesel. That must have damaged some parts of the system which then caused the issue to keep recurring. Fingers crossed that it is resolved now.

BHPian shivs2003 had the following update to share on the matter:

Apologies for the extremely delayed response.

After highlighting the issue with Toyota, the mater was escalated to TKM Bangalore.

The team analyzed and reverted that my vehicle was part of the initial batch of Fortuners. Also, some of the parts in the same were not 100% OK (design / engineering flaws). The later vehicles had the updated parts.

Based on the situation, my injectors were severely damaged. Considering the issue was a design flaw, all injectors and DPF components were replaced in a good-will gesture. As per my knowledge, the total cost was approx 5-6 L worth of parts, each injector is approx 1L.

The vehicle was repaired approx 6 months ago, no issues since then, it is running smooth.

25,000 km with a 2022 Toyota Fortuner: 12 likes & 9 dislikes

I get a mileage of 11-12 kml with ~50% driving on what passes for a highway in Mumbai and the rest on city roads. On a full highway run, managed 16 over 240 kms of 90kph cruising with a full load.

BHPian 4wheeldrive recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Here's a short review of my 2021 4x2 AT Diesel Fortuner

Jul 2021 - Dec 2022, 25000 km done

What I like:

  • Excellent power delivery. It has an answer to every question my right foot asks.
  • The autobox is not rubbish (my alternate daily drive is a GT TSI)
  • The Eco, Normal and Sport buttons actually make things happen. Eco is usually enough, Normal for when i'm feeling adventurous and Sport is just annoying.
  • Mileage! I get 11-12 with ~50% driving on what passes for a highway in Mumbai and the rest on city roads. On a full highway run, managed 16 over 240 kms of 90kph cruising with a full load. (Have a pic to prove it)
  • Aircon does the job in any conditions. (Never tried the heater)
  • LED headlights are fit for purpose (but feel inadequate to 'compel' an oncoming driver with full beams to dip his lights)
  • Great vantage point from the driver's position with enough adjustments to satisfy most people and cooling for your derriere to boot
  • 3rd row can actually seat people (even if its only kids) without having to break a leg
  • Overall the seats feel nice and supportive (mine are black)
  • Powered tailgate. Because I'm lazy.
  • Enough cupholders and cubbies to stuff with old toll receipts and expired insurance documents
  • Lastly, the engine sounds exactly the same today as when it was brand new. (Maybe Tata has lowered my standards)

What I don't:

  • This is not a car to be driven in. You will bounce around, sway around and generally be uncomfortable. Especially if its just the driver and you. This car was bought to fit a big family on weekends and my wife could be driven to office in during the week. That lasted all of 1 month (she has a long daily commute) and we ended up buying a sedan for her. Be sensible, sit up front.
  • The car takes a noticeable jerk when you change direction from R to D or D to R. Even with your foot firmly on the anchor. Workshop says its because "the engine has too much torque" and it happens to all these cars. Its annoying.
  • The 3rd row seats rattle to hell when folded unless they're cinched real tight. I just leave them down with the tops flipped down
  • If you fold and then open the 2nd row seats, they don't always lock firmly and you get an annoying rattle while driving if the 2nd row is empty. Have stopped the car innumerable times to fix the seat and stop the noise.
  • Trip info display on the ICE head unit is just confusing. Cant scroll through current-trip stats, since-refuel stats and since-reset stats without changing the display setting.
  • ICE head unit feels dated. (Apple Carplay helps)
  • No wireless Carplay in a 2021 car sold for just under 50 lakhs
  • Flappy paddles in a 2+ ton truck? Really?
  • Ordered the 360 camera / terrain monitor with the car, they said it wasnt available. Just saw a colleague's new car that had it installed - called the dealership, its not available! bizarre for a product they sell for 50k.

Service experience has been satisfactory. They remind / I call, they book, car goes, car comes back. As they say - On Time, In Full.

In hindsight, would i buy it again? In a heartbeat. Just not for my wife

Need advice: Alarm on my 2022 Toyota Fortuner goes off every 25 minutes

I had unfortunately left one of the rear window open and it had rained, rain water had made the rear passenger seat wet.

BHPian SaNdY_AR recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Hi all,

Looking for some information, 2022 Toyota Fortuner alarm goes off after every 25 mins. Tried locking and unlocking, disabling alarm using the switch on the top, tried contacting service center tech who had not clue.

  • I had unfortunately left one of the rear window open and it had rained, rain water had made the rear passenger seat wet.
  • Rain water channeled from my house terrace was falling on the bonnet directly for a few hours.

Any clues/information to solve would be helpful as the service centers are closed for holidays.

Regards,

Sandy.

Here's what BHPian ajayc123 had to say on the matter:

The least that comes to my mind is to disconnect the battery and reconnect after a couple of minutes to see if that helps.

Here's what BHPian simran had to say on the matter:

I had the same issue. This happened after an automated wash. What the service advisor asked me to do was dry the boot locking mechanism with air pressure. It anyway has come down after a few days where presumably the mechanism dried on its own. Anyway, now i've asked people to be careful to ensure no water goes in while washing the boot.

Another culprit may be the hanging items from the inside mirror. I added one, and the alarm started blaring every now and then. I think it detects the movements of the strings and starts. I removed the trinket and it has helped. Please do check if that is what was causing issues for you.
