Volvo XC40 Recharge electric SUV to be launched in 2021

Charles Frump, Managing Director, Volvo Car India, has stated that the carmaker is planning to launch the XC40 Recharge electric SUV in India sometime next year.

The XC40 Recharge is Volvo's first electric vehicle (EV). It uses two 150 kW electric motors mounted on the front and rear axles. The combined output is 402 BHP and 659 Nm. Volvo claims that the car does 0-100 km/h in 4.9 seconds, while its top speed is limited to 180 km/h. The electric motors are powered by a 78 kWh battery that is claimed to offer a maximum range of more than 400 km (WLTP cycle). The battery can be recharged from 10% to 80% in 40 minutes using a fast charger.

In terms of styling, the XC40 Recharge looks similar to the regular XC40. It gets a dual-tone exterior and blanked-out grille. It also shares the same interior and comes with a digital instrument cluster and a vertically oriented touchscreen infotainment head-unit that has Google Maps, Google Assistant, Play Store and Volvo On Call features.

The XC40 Recharge is not the only product that Volvo has lined-up for the Indian market. The carmaker is also planning to launch the third generation S60 sedan in early 2021.
