Volvo S90 India launch on November 4, 2016

Volvo India has officially announced that the S90 luxury sedan will be launching in India on November 4, 2016. The S90 will be Volvo's flagship sedan in the country.

The S90 is based on Volvo's SPA (Scalable Product Architecture) platform. This is the same platform that underpins the XC90 flagship SUV. The sedan also shares various design cues with its SUV sibling, including the Thor's Hammer LED DRLs, and the character lines on the hood. The new front grille comes with vertical slats that get a concave curve, while the bumper houses a wide air dam and LED fog lights. The S90 boasts of a longer wheelbase as compared the previous S80. The rear gets c-shaped taillights with the Volvo moniker placed in the centre of the boot lid.

The interiors are also reminiscent of the XC90. The dual-tone dashboard gets large wooden inserts in the middle. Features on offer include a large touchscreen infotainment system, Bowers & Wilkins sound system, navigation, and dual-zone climate control.

In India, Volvo will initially be offering the S90 with only the D4 engine. This 2.0-litre 4-cylinder unit churns out 187 BHP and 400 Nm of torque. The company will later introduce the D5 trim as well, which employs the same engine in a higher state of tune: 232 BHP and 480 Nm. Transmission duties will be handled by an 8-speed automatic.
The S90 will be competing against the likes of the Mercedes E-Class, BMW 5-Series, Jaguar XF, and Audi A6.
