The Virtus will compete with the Skoda Slavia, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City and Hyundai Verna.

Volkswagen has confirmed that its upcoming mid-size sedan for the Indian market will be called 'Virtus'. It will be unveiled on March 8, 2022.

According to VW, the name Virtus is a combination of the words 'Virtuoso' and 'Virtues'. The car is based on the MQB-A0-IN platform, which is shared with the Skoda Slavia.

The Virtus is expected to be offered with 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbo petrol engines. In the Slavia, these engines are rated at 113 BHP / 175 Nm and 148 BHP / 250 Nm, respectively. A 6-speed manual transmission is offered as standard with both engines. The former gets a 6-speed automatic option, while a 7-speed DSG is available with the 1.5L engine.

The Virtus will replace the Vento in the Indian market. It will compete with the Skoda Slavia, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City and Hyundai Verna.
