Volkswagen Tiguan spotted testing near Pune

The second-generation Volkswagen Tiguan has been spotted testing near Pune without any camouflage. The SUV was showcased in India at the 2016 Auto Expo and is expected to be launched in the country in 2017.

The Tiguan is built on Volkswagen's MQB platform. It is around 50 kg lighter than the previous-gen model. It gets dual-LED headlights that merge with the front grille. The interiors get a 5-inch touchscreen system. International models also come with an option of an 8-inch display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

For the Indian market, the Tiguan is likely to be powered by a 2.0-litre, turbocharged, 4-cylinder, TSI petrol engine that produces 177 BHP and 320 Nm of torque, and a 2.0-litre, TDI diesel motor rated at 148 BHP and 340 Nm of torque. Transmission options on offer are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG. The car is expected to be offered with a front-wheel drive setup on the base variants, and an all-wheel drive option on the top-end trim.

Volkswagen is expected to locally assemble the Tiguan at its Aurangabad plant in order to keep the prices competitive.
