Volkswagen India has officially announced that they will be recalling 1.9 lakh cars in the country. This recall will be made in order to fix the emission software of diesel-powered cars. The recall will be issued in July 2016, and will continue over a span of 10 months.
The company has further clarified that the aforementioned recall is a voluntary effort by the German automaker, as it didn't face any charges for violating emission standards in India. Volkswagen cars in India are compliant with the Bharat Stage IV standards that are currently applicable in the country. But since Volkswagen had to do a similar recall in the US due to the infamous diesel-gate scandal, the company's Indian arm decided to update the cars here as well.
Volkswagen India would be communicating details of the recall with customers from the next month. In addition to the Volkswagen car recall, a similar recall for 88,700 cars from Skoda and 36,500 cars from Audi will also be made in the same time period.
