A test mule of the Volkswagen Ameo diesel has been spotted in Maharashtra. Volkswagen India is expected to launch the Ameo diesel during this year's festive season.
The VW Ameo was launched in India last month. It is currently available with only a petrol engine - a 1.2 litre, three-cylinder unit. The diesel variant's launch was delayed as the German manufacturer was working on its 1.5 litre TDI engine. Now, the recent spy shots have suggested that development of the engine has been completed, as it has reached the testing phase.
The revised 1.5-litre TDI, four-cylinder, diesel engine is expected to churn out 108 BHP, which is 5 more than its predecessor, and 230 Nm of torque. This TDI engine will be offered with two transmission options: a 5-speed manual, and a 7-speed DSG automatic.
