USA: Sixth-gen Hyundai Elantra gets a 1.4L turbo-petrol

Hyundai revealed the sixth-generation Elantra in September this year. Hyundai equipped the car with 1.6L and 2.0L petrol engines along with a 1.6L diesel engine. The sedan has been revealed in its US specification and receives a new powertrain in the form of a 1.4L turbo-petrol engine.

The all-new 1.4L Kappa turbocharged GDI four-cylinder engine (equipped on the Elantra Eco trim), produces 126 BHP @ 5,500 rpm and 211 Nm of torque @ 1,400 - 3,700 rpm and comes mated with an EcoShift seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The turbocharger is a single scroll design with an electric wastegate actuator.

The standard engine available on the base SE and Limited trim is a 2.0L Nu MPI Atkinson four-cylinder engine producing a peak power of 147 BHP @ 6,200 rpm and 179 Nm of torque @ 4,500 rpm. The engine is paired with either a standard six-speed manual transmission (available only on the SE trim) or a six-speed automatic transmission.

Safety features include a seven airbag system as standard, Electronic Stability Control (ESP), Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), Traction Control, ABS and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). Other features include Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Lane Change Assist, a rearview camera with dynamic guidance, smart cruise control, dynamic bending headlights and Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection.
