Upgraded the worn gear knob on my 4th gen Honda City

The DIY part of this is pretty simple, just unscrew your old gear knob and screw the new one in until it's snug.

It becomes frustrating when an essential part of your car that you touch all the time wears down and you can't find a suitable replacement for years. Such was the case with my 2016 Honda City VX (O).

The gear knob got so worn down it looked pathetic and the OEM knob when available used to retail for more than ₹ 5000 on Boodmo which was also discontinued now. I searched online and could only find low quality replacements or shady websites.

As luck would have it, I was visiting an accessories store in Nerul to pick up a stereo for a friend where I saw this masterpiece, the perfect replacement.

Let's go on this particular gear knob's journey...

2016, when it all started

Notice that it has started wearing down around 2020

Somewhere around 2021 it really started showing its age. Also during that time I went exploring new stereos for my City, the journey of which is covered in my other threads.

Current state

My partner finds it hard to understand why these things give me so much happiness, so she just clicks my picture in that moment

The DIY part of this is pretty simple, just unscrew your old gear knob and screw the new one in until it's snug. The leather boot that earlier used to hang around lower than the gear knob now fits flush with it, leaving no visible gap.

All done up, the Honda looks perfectly splendid!

We as car enthusiasts waste none of our spare parts, due to which the old knob now serves as a desk ornament in my man cave. It can also be used as a fine paperweight!
