The upcoming hatchback from Tata Motors has been spotted on test once again. Codenamed Kite, the car will slot above the Nano in the company's model line-up. It is expected to be a replacement for the ageing Indica. A compact sedan based on the Kite, which was spotted earlier this month, is expected to replace the Indigo eCS.
The spy images show the Kite with heavy camouflage. It is likely to retain Tata's smiling front fascia with a honeycomb grille, but like the upcoming Bolt hatchback, it is expected to lose the Christmas tree tail lamps. The headlights too are likely to be shaped on the lines of those of the Bolt and Zest. Coming to the interiors, the car is expected to use many parts from other models from the company's current portfolio.
Reports suggest that engine options could include a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.05-litre, 3-cylinder diesel engine. Tata may also offer the AMT transmission with at least one engine option.
Tata Motors is likely to build the Kite at its Sanand facility, which is being under-utilised. It is expected to be positioned against the Maruti Suzuki Alto, Hyundai Eon and Datsun GO.
