UK: TVS-owned Norton to develop electric motorcycles

The Norton electric motorcycle could be unveiled only by 2025.

TVS Motors-owned Norton Motorcycles has announced that they will begin developing electric motorcycles for the future. The design and development of the electric motorcycles will take place in their UK plant after the company received funding from Advanced Propulsion Centre 19 (APC) - a government scheme to assist automotive companies to manufacture low-carbon mobility options.

The British motorcycle brand has stated that their electric motorcycle will look unmistakably a Norton and that the design of the EV will not be compromised by the weight or battery size. The company will refine the traditional Norton design DNA with a hint of modernity for the new electric motorcycle.

Norton Motorcycles has also onboarded a number of specialists for the R&D of this project, which it calls "Zero Emission Norton". This includes Delta Cosworth, HiSpeedLimited, INDRA, Formaplex Technologies, M&I Materials and even the University of Warwick. The partnership will help Norton develop not only the motorcycle, but also critical components like batteries, motors, cooling oils, and vehicle-to-home chargers.

Norton forecasts a 30-month timeline for the development of the EV motorcycle, which means the product will have its unveil only by 2025.
