TVS Motors launches Jupiter automatic scooter in North India

Hosur headquartered Indian two and three wheeler maker TVS Motors has launched the Jupiter 110 cc automatic scooter in North India. The Jupiter is priced at 44,200 rupees, ex-showroom Delhi. The scooter will be launched in South India by November this year. Essentially, the TVS Jupiter 110 is a larger automatic scooter that seeks to position itself as a man-sized alternative to stablemate Wego and other large scooters such as the Suzuki Access 125 and the Honda Aviator.

Apart from the larger body shell and a host of new features, the Jupiter shares its engine and transmission with the Wego. On the Jupiter, the 110 cc, four stroke motor also outputs the same amount of power and torque as it does on the Wego, with rated outputs of 8 Bhp-8.1 Nm output. The engine drives the rear wheel of the scooter through a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). TVS claims a 62 Kmpl fuel efficiency figure for the Jupiter.

The scooter rides on larger 12 inch alloy wheels shod with 90/90 tubeless tyres, and features telescopic front forks at the front and a gas charged monoshock at the rear. The larger wheels and telescopic suspension should endow the Jupiter 110 with better ground clearance and ride quality on broken surfaces. A front disc brake isn't a part of the equation just a yet and the scooter makes do with drum brakes at both ends. Expect the front disc brake to make an appearance as an optional part in the coming months.

Like the Wego, the Jupiter features a rear fuel filling cap that doesn't require the rider to dismount every time she or he has to fuel up. Other convenience features on the Jupiter include the patented E-Z center stand and a kick start mechanism that's easily accessible to the rider so that she/he doesn't have to dismount to kick start the scooter. Here's a round up of the other significant features offered on the Jupiter,

  • Pilot lamps
  • LED tail lamps
  • Retractable bag hooks
  • 17 liter underseat storage
  • Low fuel indicator
  • Pass switch for the headlamp
  • Dual map ignition mapped for power and economy modes
  • Power and economy mode indicators on the instrumentation console
  • 1,275 mm wheelbase (best in class)
  • 1,910 mm turning radius
