Toyota Yaris arrives at dealerships

Toyota is expected to launch the Yaris next month. These images show that Toyota has begun dispatching demo vehicles to its dealers.

As usual, some of the dealers are unofficially taking bookings with an amount of Rs. 50,000, while promising deliveries in the month of May.

The Yaris was first showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. It gets features such as automatic projector headlamps, LED DRLs, LED tail lamps and all wheel disc brakes. On the inside, it comes with a power adjustable driver's seat, roof mounted A/C vents, ambient lighting and a 7-inch ICE with gesture controls. The latest leaked documents suggest that the car will be offered in 4 variants - J, G, V and VX. 7 airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist are standard across all variants (top variant even gets ESP). Clearly, the feature list is a differentiator that Toyota is banking on.

A 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine will power the Yaris, and it will be mated to either a 6-speed MT or a 7-speed CVT with paddle shifters. The motor is just average in terms of performance & cannot match the sweet petrols of the Verna & City. Diesel enthusiasts will be disappointed as there's no talk of an oil-burning variant yet.
