Toyota is gearing up to unveil its new mid-size SUV for the Indian market. The new model is touted to take on the Hyundai Creta and is expected to debut on July 1, 2022.
According to a new report, the SUV is likely to be offered with two engine options. These include a 102 BHP 1.5-litre mild-hybrid paired with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission and a 114 BHP 1.5-litre strong hybrid mated to a CVT.
It is said that the strong hybrid option will feature an electric motor that will propel the front wheels, making it the only all-wheel drive in the segment. The SUV is unlikely to get a diesel engine option.
Rumours suggest that Toyota’s new SUV could be called Hyryder in India. It will be based on a localized version of the TNGA-B platform. Maruti Suzuki will also offer a Creta-rivalling SUV with the same powertrain options.
