Test drove the XUV 400 EV: Why I think it is an excellent city car

Bad roads, rough roads, stony patches, bumps, speed breakers and all that Bangalore back roads can throw at one, are handled with absolute unruffled aplomb.

BHPian shankar.balan recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

I test drove this today. EL Pro Top spec.

It’s a good car and priced at 18.2 lacs on road Bangalore it offers good value.

The concern point is range which in reality may yield 280kms best case. The steering is in my opinion way too light in Fun mode (Eco), Fast mode (City) tightens it imperceptibly and Fearless mode (Sports) tightens it a tad more. But it is in my opinion still quite lifeless like ‘air’.

Being FWD there is a level of tyre ‘chirrup’ on acceleration. Especially when accelerating out if a curve.

The comfort and controls and all that are fine and expected. The slab like display panel is a bit distracting.

Otherwise the fit and finish is quite good considering the load of tweaks this car has undergone and considering also its Ssangyong Tivoli origins.

The single highlight of this vehicle is its FSD - frequency selecting dampers. This single handedly elevates the entire drive experience in this vehicle over more or less any surface at all. Bad roads, rough roads, stony patches, bumps, speed breakers and all that Bangalore back roads can throw at one, are handled with absolute unruffled aplomb.

This in my opinion, is the sole reason that a normal family will enjoy this as their general commuter vehicle amidst the sea of choices available at this moment.
