Tata Nexon production begins at Ranjangaon plant

The first Tata Nexon has rolled off the production line in Ranjangaon. Tata's new sub-4 metre SUV will be put on display at showrooms across India, ahead of its official launch, which is scheduled for this festive season.

The Nexon is Tata Motors' fourth model based on its Impact design philosophy and its first compact SUV. The Tiago, Tigor and Hexa are also based on this design language.

A few days back, Tata Motors revealed details about the new set of engines that will power the Nexon. Two new engines will be on offer at launch. These include a 1,198cc, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine producing 108 BHP @ 5,000 rpm, 170 Nm of peak torque @ 2,000-4,000 rpm and a 1,496cc diesel engine putting out 108 BHP @ 3,750 rpm and 260 Nm @ 1,500-2,750 rpm. Both the Nexon petrol and diesel variants will be available with a 6-speed manual transmission.

The Nexon is claimed to be the first vehicle in its class to offer three driving modes - Eco, City and Sport. Its main rivals include the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport and the likes.
