The first batch of petrol engines that will power the Tata Nexon has been dispatched from Tata Motors' Sanand factory. The engine has been designed and developed completely in-house. On the other hand, the new 1.5-litre diesel engine will be built at Ranjangaon, where the Nexon is built.
The 1,198cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine features a turbocharger and produces 108 BHP @ 5,000 rpm and 170 Nm of torque @ 2,000-4,000 rpm. The 1,496cc, 4-cylinder diesel engine makes 108 BHP @ 3,750 rpm and a peak torque of 260 Nm @ 1,500-2,750 rpm. Both engines come with a 6-speed manual transmission.
The Tata Nexon is the first compact SUV from Tata Motors. It is likely to be launched during the upcoming festive season. Tata Motors has launched a website where customers can register their interest in the car.
