Tata Nano AMT with openable hatch spotted on test

The Automated Manual Transmission-equipped Tata Nano has been spotted once again, this time with an openable hatch. Pictures put up by Rush Lane, show the Nano AMT with very little camouflage on the roads outside the city of Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

The pictures clearly show a keyhole on the car's hatch, which confirms that the hatch is openable. This addition will make the car a much more practical proposition. Apart from the boot, the Nano Twist Active, as this variant is likely to be named, will get certain changes to its styling. The car's front end has been tweaked, there is a new pair of headlamps with black bezels, the front and rear bumpers are new with a smiley grille, and the tail lamps have been altered.

The interior of the car is likely to feature a new steering wheel, which resembles the one on the upcoming Bolt hatchback and Zest sedan, colour-coordinated dashboard, new gear level and seat covers.

On the equipment front, the most important new feature on the car is obviously the transmission. The Magnetti Marelli-built F-Tronic AMT is expected to make the car more stress-free to drive since it does not need a clutch to be depressed while changing gears. Additionally, the car is expected to carry over the electric power assisted steering (EPAS) from the Nano Twist XT, which makes driving in traffic and parking the car much easier.
