Taking delivery of my Toyota Fortuner Legender 4x4

Felt a little sluggish and also felt little disconnected with the suspension initially. After driving for few kilometres, I found my rhythm, oh awesome it is. I drove through very bad roads for few kilometres at a stretch, but this vehicle has no complaint whatsoever.

Finally the wait for my Fortuner Legender 4x4 is over.

Reached Harsha Toyota, Nellore right on time by sharp 9:30 am yesterday. The sales executive Mr. Karthik and temple priest were ready with puja material. There is a Vinayaka temple inside the showroom. So prayed and performed puja to my Legender. After that, I got all my papers under 20 minutes as they were prepared by yesterday evening.

Mr. Mukesh, Sales Head and his team Mr. Karthik have done a perfect job.

I drove back my vehicle from Nellore to Vizag, approximately 690 kms, started at 10:30 am and reached home by 12:30 In the night which includes lunch and dinner breaks.

My impressions:

Felt a little sluggish and also felt little disconnected with the suspension initially. After driving for few kilometres, I found my rhythm, oh awesome it is. I drove through very bad roads for few kilometres at a stretch, but this vehicle has no complaint whatsoever. I think my feeling for that sluggishness is because of driving the Jaguar F-Pace for the last couple of months and didn’t drive my 2017 Fortuner 4x2 automatic.

Steering is a little hard and felt each and every bump right through the steering. After almost driving more than 100 km and searching for tyre pressure checking in few petrol stations, none of them had proper functioning tyre pressure checking equipment.

Finally checked tyre pressure for all the 4 tyres at a petrol station, and to my surprise, the tyre pressures were almost extra by 13 points in each tyre. Once after reduction of air pressure as per Toyota’s recommendations, the drive quality improved drastically. I felt as if I’m driving a completely new car.

My DPF regeneration started after driving 280 kms and second regeneration started at 630 km.

Today morning took my Legender for a body wash and also got my vehicle's under body painted with 3M chassis paint. They did a splendid job.

After that, took the vehicle to my friend Sitaram who owns Xtreme Car Decors. Got my entire car including front windshield fixed with Garware Icecool shield film, replaced company given horns with much bigger and louder ones.

Upgraded tyres from 265/60R18 Bridgestone to 285/60R18 Continental Cross Contact.

Harsha Tyres, Visakhapatnam charged close to Rs. 35k for upgrading four tyres.

Initial impression:

Steering has become hard and suspension little stiffer.

Checked the air pressure in the tyres and it was 40psi in all of them. So, after reducing them to 30psi (1psi more than the recommended), then the ride was smooth and felt the grip, but at lower speeds, the steering was little tight and once you gain momentum it was normal.

The stance has improved, here are few snaps after the upgrade:
