Suzuki's Gujarat plant could be used to manufacture electric cars for Maruti and Toyota. It is said that the discussions are still on and the final decision is yet to be taken.
As Suzuki is the parent company of Maruti Suzuki, it can avail production-linked incentives under the government's PLI scheme. The decision on the prospects of manufacturing Toyota cars at the Gujarat plant will be subject to discussions.
It has been reported that Maruti Suzuki will launch its first EV in the Indian market by around 2025. The YY8 electric SUV is being jointly developed with Toyota. It will be based on the 27PL 'skateboard' platform.
Suzuki will also be setting up a lithium-ion battery manufacturing unit in the state. The facility is being set up in collaboration with Denso and Toshiba.
