Earlier this year, rumours emerged of Royal Enfield trademarking the name Himalayan. While the Chennai based motorcycle maker has not confirmed any plans for the new model, a mystery test mule has been spotted in Gummidipoondi, Chennai. If the source is to be believed, this could be the very first spy shot of the Royal Enfield Himalayan.
The first give-away on the test mule is the Continental GT’s front mud-guard. The bike gets dual disc brakes and the chain and sprocket kit sits on the left side. The bike also gets thin rear cowl and seems to ride on a mono-shock absorber rear suspension. The front forks look familiar and bear a black powder coat. Previous media reports suggest the inclusion of a long travel suspension, but for now we can only comment on the rubber suspension covers to give it the look of an off-roader. The headlight and taillight cluster appear to be restyled versions of those seen on the Continental GT and the overall styling seems to draw inspiration from the Royal Enfield Interceptor.
What grabs the most attention is the engine which looks considerably different from the UCE that has been seen on Royal Enfields so far. The crankcase appears to have a scratched out version of Royal Enfield's new logo engraved into it as well. Rumours stated that the Himalayan would use a new 400cc engine and if this is indeed the Himalayan, the engine could be the rumoured mill as well. The bike in question is evidently a work in progress. More details are awaited.
