Skoda VisionS concept SUV revealed; debuts at Geneva

After releasing design sketches earlier, Skoda has now published official images of the VisionS concept SUV. The VisionS previews a new 6-7 seater SUV that will slide in above the Yeti. Based on Volkswagen's MQB architecture, the concept measures 4.70 metres in length, 1.91 metres in width, 1.68 metres in height and has a 2.79 metre wheelbase.

The highlight of this concept vehicle is its plug-in hybrid powertrain, which consists of 3 motors that provide a combined output of 221 BHP. The internal combustion engine is a 1.4 TSI petrol unit that makes 154 BHP and 250 Nm of torque. This works alongside an e-motor that makes 54 BHP and 220 Nm of torque. These two engines channel power to the front wheels through a six-speed DSG gearbox while a second electric motor that makes 114 BHP and 270 Nm of torque drives the rear axle. This works independently of the front axle drive, meaning the show car has a four-wheel drive system, which requires no mechanical coupling.

The lithium-ion battery with a 12.4 kWh capacity is positioned in front of the rear axle. The car does the 0-100 km/h run in a claimed 7.4 seconds, with a top speed of almost 200 km/h. The VisionS has a pure electric power range of up to 50 km, and can travel up to 1,000 km with both systems combined. The concept SUV will be showcased at the 86th Geneva Motor Show that will be held next month. A recent report stated that the production SUV could be named the 'Kodiak'.
