Last week, Maruti Suzuki launched the S-Cross in India. What is interesting is that in many major cities of the country, the company has given the Zeta trim level of the DDiS 200 version of the car a standard price of under Rs. 10 lakh.
In cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad, among others, the S-Cross DDiS 200 Zeta has been priced at an identical Rs. 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). This will help buyers save a huge amount on the on-road price of the car in certain states where taxes and duties on cars with an ex-showroom price of above Rs. 10 lakh are much higher than those priced below Rs. 10 lakh.
In Bangalore, for instance, the on-road price of the DDiS 200 Zeta works out to Rs. 2 lakh (approximately) lesser than that of the Alpha, which has an ex-showroom price of 11.19 lakh. Had the ex-showroom price been over Rs. 10 lakh, customers would have to pay an additional amount of Rs. 50,000 (approximately) on the on-road price of the car.
While the Zeta misses out on features such as leather upholstery, automatic projector headlamps, LED positioning lamps, automatic wipers and auto-dimming IRVM, the savings still make it a good deal for the customer.
