Volkswagen is reported to be gearing up to launch the Ameo diesel on September 27, 2016. The Ameo was launched earlier this year, but only with a petrol engine. With the addition of the diesel version, the automaker hopes to boost the compact sedan's sales during the upcoming festive season.
The Ameo diesel will be powered by a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder engine, which is also offered with the Volkswagen Polo, Vento, and Skoda Rapid. However, the company has fitted it with a larger turbocharger resulting in a higher power output of around 110 BHP. This engine is likely to be offered with a choice of a manual and a 7-speed DSG transmission.
The Ameo diesel is expected to be offered in three variants - Trendline, Comfortline, and Highline and the variant-wise feature distribution will be similar to that of the petrol version.
The Ameo competes in the highly competitive compact sedan segment with rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Tata Zest, Honda Amaze, and Hyundai Xcent.
