If speculations are anything to go by, Tata Motors is planning to launch a premium hatchback in order to enhance its footprint in the market. This car will compete against the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20, Volkswagen Polo and Honda Jazz.
The premium hatchback segment has shown considerable promise, as the Baleno and i20 manage to clock around 10,000 unit sales each month. As a result, Tata Motors is planning to enter it.
Codenamed X451, the hatchback will be built on the company's Advance Modular Platform (AMP). It will share design cues from the upcoming Nexon compact SUV. A mid-size sedan on the same platform is also likely to be launched at a later date. This car will compete with the Honda City and Maruti Ciaz.
In addition to the X451 hatchback and sedan siblings, Tata is also working on a couple of MUVs and MPVs. The Indian automaker is reportedly planning to launch six new cars in the next four years, apart from the products it showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo (Nexon, Hexa, and Kite 5).
