Earlier this month, there were rumours about Toyota evaluating the possibility of phasing out the Yaris sedan from the Indian market. Now, according to a media report, the carmaker could be looking at replacing the Yaris with a rebadged Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
The report claims that Maruti would supply the Ciaz under the agreement which was signed by the two companies earlier. In addition to rebadging, the car could also receive minor cosmetic changes.
Maruti Suzuki offers the Ciaz in four variants - Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. However, Toyota's version is expected to come in fewer trim levels.
Mechanically, the car will be identical to the Ciaz. It will be powered by the same 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder mild-hybrid petrol engine. This motor produces 103 BHP and 138 Nm and comes paired with a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission.
