The first spy image of the next generation Maruti Alto has surfaced online. It appears that the new model could feature a micro-SUV body style introduced by the Renault Kwid.
The spy image suggest that the new Alto could borrow styling cues from the Future-S Concept that was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. The car seems to have a high roofline with a raked rear windshield, indicating a micro-SUV style exterior. The test mule has dummy tail lights and narrow tyres.
The next generation Alto is expected to be based on the HEARTECT platform, which also underpins the new Swift and WagonR. It would comply with the upcoming safety regulations and is therefore likely to be offered with safety features like driver side airbag, ABS, rear parking sensors, seat belt reminder and high-speed warning as standard.
While there is no information about the engines that will be offered on the new Alto, it might get BS-VI compliant 800cc and 1.0-litre petrol engine options.
The next-gen Alto, which has been internally codenamed as the Y1K, is expected to be unveiled in 2019. Development started back in 2016 after the Japanese company gave the go-ahead to the Indian unit.
