According to a media report, Mercedes-Benz is evaluating the A-Class sedan for India. The car is rumoured to be launched sometime in 2020-21.
The A-Class sedan is based on the Modular Front Architecture (MFA2). It measures 4,549 mm in length, 1,796 mm in width and has a wheelbase of 2,729 mm. A long wheelbase version (2,789 mm) is available in China.
The exterior styling of the A-Class sedan is similar to the fourth generation A-Class hatchback. The front end features a wide grille with a Mercedes-Benz logo, which is flanked by sweptback LED headlamps that have V-shaped LED daytime running lights. The rear features wraparound LED tail lights and a dual-tone bumper with twin exhausts.
The interior of the car is also identical to the hatchback. It has a 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel and a wide screen that houses the digital instrument cluster as well as the touchscreen infotainment system. The redesigned dashboard has a gloss black centre console with three circular air-conditioning vents.
In India, the A-Class sedan could be offered with a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 161 BHP and 250 Nm of torque and 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel unit that puts out 114 BHP and 260 Nm of peak torque. Both engines are likely to be paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
