Rumour: Maruti XL6 1.5L Diesel BS6 launch around Jan 2022

The Vitara Brezza 1.5L Diesel might be showcased at the 2022 Auto Expo.

The BS6 emission regulations killed the 1.3-litre diesel engine and since then, Maruti Suzuki hasn't had a diesel engine in its line-up. This is expected to change soon as the carmaker is developing a new 1.5-litre diesel motor.

The said engine has been in development for over a year now and according to a media report, it is likely to debut in the XL6 around January 2022.

Maruti had launched a 1.5-litre diesel engine in its BS4 avatar in the Ciaz and Ertiga prior to April 2020, when the new regulations came into effect. The BS6 version is expected to be introduced in the Ertiga and Vitara Brezza at a later stage.

In fact, rumours suggest that the diesel Vitara Brezza might be showcased at the 2022 Auto Expo. Toyota might also offer the new 1.5-litre diesel engine in re-badged models like the Urban Cruiser.
